Kids these days! Anju came in and got yarn to do the Multi directional diagonal scarf. She had finished it in about 3 days. That is in between her volunteer work! She is a charming young lady. What a breath of fresh air. And - a very fast knitter!

Noni Bag trunk show tonight!

The Noni Bag Trunk Show is commin' to town! The celebration of its arrival will be August 24th. 6:30 - 8:00 pm at Noe Knit. We will discuss and delight in the designs. Eight of the bags from the collection will be live in the store. If you can't come to the party Thursday night, they will all be on display through Aug 28th. Stop by and have a look at these beauties!

The Party!!!

The Sneak Preview Party is Monday Night!
We have been getting boxes in all week. And stickering them like crazy. In case you think this is 'light work', all of the fluffy balls of delcious yarn come in boxes that weigh an extrodianry amount. One company sent 3 boxes, each weighing 59 lbs. How much yarn is that? It's about hip heigh, and 2 feet deep. And that does not include the back orders!
Of course, they delivered our 'new' Noe Knit custom printed bags this week too! 62 boxes! Over 1000 lbs! The bags are as beautiful as our 'old' bags with handles and all. But, did they have to come this week?

We have a new needle display rack too, so whether it's bamboo, plastic, or metal, your choice should be easier to find.

I can't wait to see everyone.

6 days and counting

Only 6 days until the Sneak Peek Party. We'll be unveiling all the new fall yarns we can get our hands on. Due in is "Bunny Hop" from Crystal Palace. It's a wonderful whipped 50 % micro Acrylic, 42% micro Nylon, 8% rabbit angora. And it's not 'hairy'!

Bunnie's Visit

You've seen pictures of Bunnie (Mom) and Vivian Huxbro... Mom's been working on a wrap/poncho with the domino knitting technique featured.

She just visited, and delivered the finished piece. It could not really be more beautiful, for lots of reasons. (I'm a lucky girl!)

Knitting With Wire

I saw these wonderful projects that were done with knitted wire. I love the way they shine, and the way the stitches are defined in three dimentions. I thought I would start with a plain bowl, and move to a beaded piece.

I used 24 guage wire (exactly what the pattern called for) and size 9 needles (also, exactly what the pattern called for).

I went to cast on, long tail, as always. Well that is not going to fly on WIRE! (The book did not mention which cast on would be best. I find that SO surprising, considering most authors tell you what cast on they want you to do when it's just yarn.) So I opted for the e-wrap. Each stitch was painful, and slow.
I began with some plastic needles, and swiched to the metal needles. The less flexibility in the needle the better. My fingers were hurting before the cast on was over.

Metal needles, plastic needles, e-wrap, e-shmap... I cannot tell you how AGONIZING this was. I had dreams of mastering the project, and then offering it as a class. !!! That will not be the case. The pictures you see here represent about 1.5 hours of knitting. (Pitiful!) Frankly, I want my time back! My index fingers hurt for 2 days.

But worst of all, I will not have my knitted bowl. I am in mourning for the project. And the class, for that matter.
The meagre beginning lives in the store on the back table, if you want to come in and try a few stitches.

Stitch & Pitch

A baseball game where knitting is SANCTIONED!!! They sold 1000 tickets to knitters and thier families! It was loads of fun. And, the Giants won!

The New Knit Scene

Interweave Press has a new Magazine out: Knit Scene. The Fall 2006 issue just arrived. Here are two little delights from it.
One is the Pointsettia sweater. Even if your eyebrows are not as perfect as this Spanish beauty's, I think the sweater is a winner.



There seems to be no shortage of felted bag choices. But this one is especially clever. The cut circles give this bag a crisp design element, when felting is usually more "soft".

A Project "outside of the box"

I read about knitting with shredded t-shirts, and the idea intrigued me. So I gave it a whirl! It was really fun, and interesting, and unusual. I am working on patchwork squares, and I'll be turning them into a great bathmat, or small kitchen carpet. It's washable, and bright, electric colors. But, of course, yours could be more subdued.

We are hosting a class in August called "t-shirt knitting" if you would like to join us. It will be two weeks long, and cover the process of how to best go about cutting the shirts, as well as some basics of designing your own creation.

Finished Works Of Art

Two finished projects to show.



First, the Stitch Diva Studio Scarf, modeled by Cathy. She is an elegant woman, and the scarf just sings! Cathy is also a jeweler, and bead artist, so in the final rows, she added beads.


Next, we have Peggy's Fruit Cap. The twist here, is that Peggy did it in Tweed (Jo Sharp Silk Road Aran Tweed). It takes a chrisp hat, and makes it into an impressionist watercolor!




Bravo to both of these creative ladies!

Look What Came Today

I was oh, so excited to see THIS box! Blue Herron, Beaded Rayon. This is what I am doing the Clapotis with. Yummy colors!

Bea's Sweater

Sue has been working on a sweater for her good friend Bea. Here it is ready to go. It is done in Manos Cotton Stria, with Mother of Pearl buttons. It has a wonderful texture to it. Sue did a hem with a purl stitch boarder, which made it that much more 'crisp' and professionally finished.

Devon's Bag

Devon did this fantastic little bag. It's from 25 bags to knit. She lined it when she finished. In the end, her bag is actually a functional purse, and has a little more structure. It is beautiful!

When Jo visited us, she brought a treasure trove of garments for us to preview. One was the Kimono Sweater from "Eclectic. Here it is, on several of us. This sweater was so beautiful! The button has a frog closure, and a wonderful silk tassle.

Jo Sharp At Noe Knit (how happy are WE?)

Jo Sharp visited us on Sunday Afternoon. Meeting her in person was such a treat. As if just hearing her speak was not enough, she came with a huge case of her work to share! She spoke to us about all aspects of the business. The discussion included how books go to print, and how pictures are taken for the patterns. We learned about what it takes to make a tweed yarn, a heather yarn, and a 'plain' yarn, and about the approval rounds, and the process at the mills. And she talked about pattern writing and double checking (a science, as you all are aware!) And we spoke about color, and the color wheel, and tone, hues, and saturation. It was all facinating. Jo was so plesant and easy going. We have all elevated her to "single name status" and will simply refer to her as "Jo" from now on.
It was an incredible day!

The Yarn Market

I just got back from the Retailer's Yarn Market (in Indianapolis.) While officially, it is a trade show... it is glorious! Can you dream up anything better than entire convention center full of yarn??? I went in search of the new offerings by Debbie Bliss, and ended up finding Debbie (herself!)
We chatted for a bit. She was everybit as nice as you would imagine she would be. What a delight!

Debby Ware Kits

We now have a selection of Debbby Ware kits in stock!

These kits contain everything you need except the needles. The uncomplicated patterns have been written so even a beginning knitter can succeed. The projects are adorable!

Roving

Did you know we now carry roving? This white ball has been washed once and carded. Two of them are one sheep's worth a wool! We also carry smaller pieces of roving in many colors as well as supplies for needles felting.
Needle felting is a fun and easy way create felted objects (such as the cherry here) as well as add embellishments to knit items and clothing.

We can teach you how in our Needle Felting Class.

It was a scarf day today. Marezol is modeling a crochete effort from the new book "Happy Hooker". We were lucky to catch it, as it is a gift, and on it's way to the recipient.
